CORPUS CHRISTI CALLER TIMES -- She also has followed the muralists with her many large public commissions. These include a commission by the San Francisco Airport for a copper cutout wall sculpture entitled “Baile.” She’s completed a series of eight paintings designed for the San Francisco Water Department. Her work is featured in Texas in an outdoor metal cutout painting for New Hope Housing in Houston; a painting, “Barbacoa para cumpleanos,” for the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, and a 36- by 48-foot acrylic painting “A Plaza in Texas in the 1930s” for the Institute of Texas Cultures. Although Garza, who earned her Master of Fine Arts from San Francisco State University, has been living and painting in San Francisco since the 1970s, she said her work continues to look back at her personal history and the Kingsville community.
