The College of Liberal & Creative Arts seeks candidates for the inaugural director of its Center for Iranian Diaspora Studies. Created with a transformational gift from alumna Neda Nobari earlier this year, the center will position SF State as an academic pioneer in Iranian diaspora research.
The director will engage and convene academic forums and cultural programs, distinguished guest speakers and research exchanges with scholars and students locally, nationally and internationally. The director will also work to build collaborative relationships and programs with members of Iranian diaspora communities locally and nationally. The director is charged with developing the center’s strategic plan, building an advisory board and securing philanthropic donations and grants.
The director will have faculty tenure in one of the College’s departments and hold the title of Neda Nobari Distinguished Chair.

The Center for Iranian Diaspora creates a vigorous, dynamic and fresh approach to the study of, and research, about Iranian diaspora communities and their development and contributions to host societies and impact on Iranian identity. It will focus on transnational movements and migration patterns of Iranian communities around the globe, particularly in California, the United States, North America and Europe. It will be a platform for new academic programs that foster intellectual engagement with local and global Iranian communities across numerous disciplines.
