BROADWAY WORLD (OFF-OFF BROADWAY) -- The National Alliance for Musical Theatre is thrilled to announce the line-up of directors and initial casting for the 29th annual Festival of New Musicals, which takes place on Thursday, October 19, and Friday, October 20, at New World Stages. This year, a committee of 16 theatre professionals selected eight new musicals out of 240 blind submissions, including “Fall Springs” (music and lyrics by Niko Tsakalakos, book and lyrics by Peter Sinn Nachtrieb). “Fall Springs” is a semi-charming, cash-strapped town that sits directly on top of America's largest reserve of cosmetic essential oils. It has big dreams, but at what cost? With new fracking techniques being recklessly implemented, the ground beneath Fall Springs is crumbling. Boulders, sheds and the occasional bartender are being swallowed into the ground. And that's only the beginning. Nachtrieb is a San Francisco-based playwright whose work has been seen Off-Broadway and across the country. He holds a degree in theatre and biology from Brown University and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from San Francisco State University.
