Opening Day closes with the opening concert of the Morrison Artists Series’ 58th season, featuring SF State’s resident Alexander String Quartet. The ensemble will perform the world premiere of Pulitzer Prize-winning Professor Emeritus Wayne Peterson’s new composition Bright Reflections. Guest clarinetist David Shifrin joins the quartet for classics from Mozart and Brahms. Free tickets are required.

In the Fine Arts Gallery, The Illuminated Library displays both contemporary and historic explorations of the book form and the relationship of text and image, including rare illustrated manuscripts. Inside the gallery, SF State’s Gregorian chant ensemble Schola Civilis will deliver an exclusive performance one of the manuscripts on display. Student festivities include a performance by the SF State Chamber Singers, readings of new plays and poetry, a dance showcase and film screening. Student-run radio station KSFS will welcome guests into its studio from noon to 2pm.
