The Creative Writing Department opens its Writers on Writing course to the public every Monday evening of the semester. Taught by Donna de la Perrière, the course features faculty and visiting writers reading from their works and discussing their creative process.

May-Lee Chai

The recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts grant in literature, Chai has written the memoir Hapa Girl, short-story collection Glamorous Asians and novel My Lucky Face. She has published numerous short stories in journals, magazines and anthologies as well as essays and journalism. She has degrees from Grinnell College, Yale University, University of Colorado. Chai earned her Master of Fine Arts from SF State in 2013. She has also studied at universities in France, China and Taiwan and likes to study new languages. Chai has taught at SF State, University of Wyoming and Amherst College.
