Bambi B. Schieffelin is a linguistic anthropologist who received her Master of Arts in developmental psychology and her Ph.D. in anthropology from Columbia University. Her main research interests are centered in the ways in which linguistic and cultural practices are intertwined in contexts of language use and social interaction. She has been instrumental in developing the fields of language socialization and language ideology, and has investigated linguistic and cultural change, the introduction of literacy and translation and missionization.
