Paul is the author of Fighting Fire, a 1998 memoir about becoming one of San Francisco’s first female firefighters. A 1986 Stanford graduate and aspiring filmmaker, Paul took the firefighter’s exam in 1988 as research for a planned radio report. When she was accepted, she dropped the story and joined the department.

The Creative Writing Department opens its Writers on Writing course to the public on Mondays this semester. Taught by Peter Orner, the course features faculty and visiting writers reading from their works and discussing their creative process.
