University Dance Theatre: The Invention of Wings

ODC/Dance directors Brenda Way and KT Nelson's timely work about censorship, freedom, resilience and the enduring power of expression comes to the McKenna Theatre stage. Invention of Wings takes as its starting point Way's site-specific installation commissioned for the opening of Chinese dissident Ai Weiwei's recent @Large project on Alcatraz. Students will also perform new choreography by faculty members Cathleen McCarthy, Ray Tadio and Wendy Diamond and fellow students. Directed by Cathleen McCarthy and Wendy Diamond. April 7 - April 9, 8pm. April 10, 2pm. $10 - $15.

Students will also perform Vortex, a quintet to the music of Gabriel Prokofiev choreographed by Cathleen McCarthy; Consider the Source, a light and buoyant contemporary ballet piece for five women set to music by Michael Nyman and choreographed by Wendy Diamond; Jazzy King Cole, choreographed by Ray Tadio, celebrating the jazz roots of Nat King Cole; and five works choreographed by students Veronica France, Nicole Maimon and Kassidy Friend, Victoria Lethco, Spencer Pulu and Meagan Wells.
