Sarah Ruhl's play, In the Next Room, introduces us to an illuminated world. Electricity is making the dark shadows bright, and the unseen visible. In the animated and heady world of Dr. and Mrs. Givings new ideas and technology bring startling discoveries. With the flick of a switch pleasure can be self-administered. Underpinning this Victorian parlor comedy about vibrators are deeper observations about the subjugation of women, racism and classism. Behind the door, in the next room is a new way of understanding love, marriage and the world. Directed by Bill Peters. October 13 - October 15, 8pm. October 16, 2pm. October 20 - October 22, 8pm. October 23, 2pm. Pre-show discussion: October 16, 1pm. $10 - $15.
