Bunraku Workshop

Tuesday, October 25, 2016, 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm
Photo of Bunraku puppeteers and two puppets
Bunraku puppeteers give a lecture/demonstration and perform classics and contemporary pieces. Bunraku puppetry is a complex, artistic technique accompanied by narrative chanting and music. Each nearly life-sized puppet requires three puppeteers to bring it to life. The Sonoma Cultural Exchange invited world-renowned Japanese Bunraku puppeteer Kanroku and the Mokugu-sha Company from Osaka, Japan, to feature in Northern California. Be prepared for a rare treat, filled with dramatic myths and legends. Presented by the Dilena Takeyama Center for the Study of Japan and Japanese Culture. Co-sponsored by the Fine Arts Gallery. Free.
