Kristina Lyons, assistant professor of feminist studies at University of California, Santa Cruz has been working in the Colombian Amazon since 2005. Her research tracks human-soil relations across laboratories, greenhouses, gardens, forests and fields. She is interested in the ways practices with "soils" are deeply enmeshed in struggles between farmers, politicians, aid workers and scientists over the meanings of "peace," "productivity," "rural development," "sustainability" and what constitutes a "good and healthy life" in a context of war bound up with the voracious power of capital.
