Drawing inspiration from Oasis, Chevelle and other indie rock artists, Kabul Dreams is Afghanistan's first rock band. It has paved the way for a modest, but growing rock scene in the war-torn country. The band's motivation to perform came not only for its members' own love of music, but also a public hunger for a new life after war. Free.

Established in 2008, Kabul Dreams consists of Sulyman Qardash (lead singer and guitarist), Raby Adib (drummer) and Siddique Ahmad (bassist). Its first full-length album, Plastic Words, was released in 2013 and was mixed by Grammy-winning producer Alan Sanderson and recorded in Afghanistan.

Kabul Dreams, now based in the U.S., has performed at SXSW and music festivals in Asia and Europe. It is the subject of the acclaimed documentary, Radio Dreams, which follows an eccentric Iranian writer through his travails as he pursues his ambitious goal of bringing together Metallica and Kabul Dreams. Produced by Marjaneh Moghimi of Butimar Productions, with executive producer, the Neda Nobari Foundation, Radio Dreams was one of eight films to compete in the Hivos Tiger Award Competition at the 45th International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2016. The SF State community is invited to an exclusive, private screening documentary preceding the concert. A panel discussion featuring director Babak Jalali will follow the film. Complimentary food will be served.

This concert celebrates the establishment of a center for Iranian diasporic studies at SF State in the coming year, an initiative funded by alumna Neda Nobari (B.S., ’84).
