Crochet Jam
Thursday, October 11, 2018, 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm
Learn to crochet and help artist and community builder Ramekon O'Arwisters create amazing tapestries out of woven strips of fabric -- some new, some old, and some even vintage -- using the folk-art tradition of crocheting rag rugs. Crochet Jam is also a means for individuals from different communities to unite their stories and fabrics into a large tapestry and understand that we are more alike than otherwise. Crochet Jam incorporates a freeform approach with no attempt to direct the outcome of the event. Participants engage in a calming and meditative group art activity. Materials and instructions in crochet are provided. Free.

Ramekon O’Arwisters started Crochet Jam in 2012. His social-art practice is rooted in a cherished childhood memory that's steeped in the African-American tradition of weaving in a calm and non-judgmental environment without rules or limitations.
This event is presented in conjunction with All Together Now, an art exhibition at the Fine Arts Gallery.
