The Best of Czechoslovak Cinema: Katalin Varga

Banished by her husband and her village, Katalin Varga is left with no other choice than to set out on a quest to find the real father of her son, Orbán. Directed by Peter Strickland. 2009. Lead actress Hilda Péter, winner of the 2009 Best Actress Award at the Brussels European Film Festival, will be present to introduce the film and participate in a Q&A. This event replaces the previously scheduled screening of Jan Svankmajer's film Otesánek. Free.

The School of Cinema opens its The Best of Czechoslovak Cinema course to the public on Wednesday evenings this fall. The screenings showcase the most memorable works of some of the most significant directors from the 1950s to the present. All films shown with English subtitles. Featured as Cinema 307, the course is taught by Professor Steven Kovacs.
