Roger Frie discusses his recent book, Not in My Family: German Memory and Responsibility After the Holocaust (Oxford University Press), winner of the 2017 Canadian Jewish Literary Award and 2018 Western Canada Jewish Book Award. This lecture concludes the Department of Jewish Studies 2018 - 19 lecture series, Holocaust Across the Disciplines. Funded in part by the Morris Weiss Award in Holocaust Education. Roger Frie is professor and clinical psychologist at Simon Fraser University and affiliate professor of psychiatry at University of British Columbia. In 2018 – 19, he is serving as an associate member of the Columbia University Seminar on Cultural Memory.
Frie is a registered psychologist and interdisciplinary scholar in the fields of psychoanalysis, philosophy and history. He lectures and writes widely on historical trauma, cultural memory and human interaction and is a practicing psychotherapist. He is also editor of History Flows Through Us: Germany, the Holocaust and the Importance of Empathy (Routledge).
