Is anything original anymore? This exhibition explores the value of originality in the age of reboots, remixes, appropriation, infringement and deep fakes. While modern art emphasizes originality, truth and identity, artworks themselves are often preserved through replicas. Today’s artists exist precariously in a culture that increasingly normalizes appropriation, knockoffs and forgeries, especially online. Curated and organized by Kevin B. Chen with research and logistics assistance from Sharon E. Bliss and more than 60 students in the Exhibition Design course. Reception: Saturday, September 21, 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. Gallery hours: Tuesdays - Fridays, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m., and by appointment. Free.
