Annual Longmore Lecture in Disability Studies: Antoine Hunter
Antoine Hunter is an award-winning African American producer, choreographer, film/theater actor, dancer, dance instructor, model, poet, speaker, mentor and deaf advocate. Hailing from Oakland, he began dancing with Dawn James at Skyline High School. Over the years he has studied West African dance with Master C.K. and Betty Ladzekpo and studied at the Paul Taylor Summer Intensives. Reception to follow. Free.
Antoine Hunter
Hunter has performed with Savage Jazz Dance Company under Artistic Director Reginald Ray Savage since 2001 as a dance artist, performer and jazz dance Instructor. Additionally, he has performed with Nuba Dance Theater, earned many lead roles with the Lorraine Hansberry Theatre, Sins Invalid and Epiphany’s Trolley Dance Company. Hunter has also had the honor of performing with Alayo Dance Company under Artistic Director Ramon Ramos Alayo and Robert Moses’ KIN.
He has won the National Dance Week Dancer’s Choice Award, Margaret Jenkins’ Chime award, VRS Award (the international organization on arts and disabilities) and Bay Area Star Award.
Hunter is a faculty member at East Bay Center for the Performing Arts, Shawl-Anderson, Youth in Arts and Dance-A-Vision. He is the founder of Iron Tri-Angel Urban Ballet in Richmond, was an instructor and rehearsal director for the Ross Dance Company and dance captain for Expedia.com commercials.
