Kayvan Mojtahedzadeh was among three SF State second-place winners at the California State University Student Research Competition, earning further recognition for his product design that warns people of the heat on an electric stove burner. A Master of Arts candidate in Industrial Arts, Mojtahedzadeh presented his product May 2 and 3 at Cal State East Bay.
The ThermoRing is a plastic ring placed around a burner. It changes color from black to red when it becomes too hot to touch. Last month Mojtahedzadeh was one of seven finalists selected to participate in the Stanford University Center on Longevity’s inaugural Design Challenge, encouraging students worldwide to create products that will help adults suffering from dementia. Professor Ricardo Gomes served as Mojtahedzadeh’s mentor.
History undergraduate Miles Culpepper also participated in the CSU-wide competition for “Our Man in Guatemala: The Christian Right, General Efrain Rios Montt and the Reagan Coalition.” Associate Professor Charles Postel served as Culppper’s mentor.
Ten participants from the annual Graduate Research and Creative Works Showcase held April 24 were selected to represent SF State at the 28th annual CSU Student Research Competition. The competition promotes excellence in undergraduate and graduate scholarly research and creative activity by recognizing outstanding student accomplishments throughout the CSU’s 23 campuses.
