SF WEEKLY -- College finals are usually stressful, nerve-wracking affairs for the student, but the San Francisco State University Film Finals makes it fun for the rest of us. Now entering its 54th year, the Finals is a showcase of the best recent SFSU Cinema student films, vetted the week earlier in the free-to-all Film Previews at SFSU’s intimate Coppola Theater by a jury of faculty, students, and audience members. The films that survive the Previews are projected onto the much bigger screen of the Finals. Usually held at SFSU’s perfectly lovely McKenna Theatre, this year the Finals hits the big time: the Sundance Kabuki Cinemas. And the films will not just show on any Kabuki screen, but rather in the 500-seat Auditorium One. Watching movies from the balcony seats is a rare opportunity that should never be missed, but in this case it comes with a drink ticket, as well as admission to the post-screening soiree. The evening is a great way to discover tomorrow's best filmmakers.
