English literature major José Alfaro is the hood recipient — He is the one College of Liberal and Creative Arts baccalaureate selected to represent his fellow graduates at Commencement on May 24.
SF State selects a Bachelor’s and Master’s hood recipient for each of the six academic colleges, as the top graduating students to receive the symbolic investiture of the hood at Commencement represent their peers.
Raised in Sacramento, Alfaro takes inspiration from scholar Gloria Anzaldúa, activist-writer Audre Lorde and others. Alfaro will pursue a doctorate in English literature at University of California, Riverside. He plans to become an English literature professor.
Alfaro is also the English Language and Literature Department’s 2014 undergraduate honoree.
