SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE -- The battle between two Asian Democrats to represent the mainland’s first Asian-majority district has riveted the attention of the Asian American political world, said David Lee, a political science lecturer at San Francisco State University and head of the Chinese American Voters Education Committee. Lee sees no aversion to Honda among South Asians. “If you’re looking for hostility, there’s none of that, not that I can detect,” Lee said. Instead, he finds loyalty to a longtime champion of Asian rights. “Honda is a pioneer and iconic figure in national Asian American politics,” Lee said. “An entire generation of Asian American elected officials came up under Honda’s mentorship. He has just legions of supporters all across the United States.”
