Professor Stein's Research Examines 1969 Resignation of Supreme Court Justice Abe Fortas

NATIONAL LAW JOURNAL -- Building on the research of others — including historian Marc Stein of San Francisco State University — Samahon examined a 1967 FBI memo describing a confrontation by a bureau official, at Hoover’s direction, of Fortas in his home about a male informant’s claim that a teenaged prostitute had disclosed a relationship with Fortas. The justice vigorously denied the allegation. Hoover appeared satisfied — the memo says no further action would be taken.
