SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE -- Peter Finch, the KGO anchor, was introduced by programmer Dennis Constantine. A jubilant Finch called his induction “a huge thrill and an honor.” He loved radio as a kid and did some on-air work in high school.
While at SF State, he got a weekend DJ job at a station in Monterey. Finch didn’t have a car, so he took a bus to San Francisco Airport on Saturdays, flew to Monterey, walked to the station and did six hours, till midnight. He slept on a couch in the women’s restroom, got up, did the noon-to-6 Sunday show and flew back in time to attend classes.
“I cleared about 10 bucks a weekend and I was loving it. I was on the radio!”
