CSU FULLERTON NEWS -- McClanahan, who also earned a History degree from San Francisco State, received her nursing degree from University of San Francisco, worked in general nursing and eventually became a school nurse in Oxnard. While continuing her work as a school nurse, McClanahan began her studies in the doctoral program, as well as taught a distance learning class in the nursing program.

“I am most interested in examining the role of the school nurse,” she said. “More specifically, I am interested in looking at the school nurse’s role in providing care coordination for children with complex medical needs.” It’s an important role that she emphasizes with her students. “Children attend school with a multitude of medical conditions that require nursing care during the school day,” she said. “Without school nurses, some children would not be able to attend school.”
