KTVU-CHANNEL 2 (OAKLAND) -- “Night of the Living Dead,” a cult classic came out in 1968. It is a film about people trying to survive a zombie invasion. Later, there was a music video: Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” where the pop star morphs into a zombie. Fast forward to the present as people pay homage to the popular television series “The Walking Dead” at fan conventions across the country. “They are all products of our culture and reflect who we are,” said Aaron Kerner, associate professor of Cinema at San Francisco State University. WalkerStalkerCon makes its San Francisco debut Saturday, and 16,000 to 18,000 people are expected over the weekend at the sold out event. Kerner, a pop culture expert, compares these movies and series to an archaeological site. “To dig through the rubble and to find the cultural artifacts that are hidden within the films themselves,” he said.
