Alumna Lisa Cholodenko took home her first Directors Guild of America Outstanding Directorial Achievement Award on February 7, for her work on the HBO miniseries Olive Kitteridge.
The winners of the 67th annual Directors Guild of America awards were announced tonight during the 67th Annual DGA Awards Dinner at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles. Cinema Lecturer Jesse Moss was also nominated, as director of the documentary The Overnighters.
Olive Kitteridge, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, follows an abrasive middle-school math teacher and her relationships with Henry over a span of 25 years. It also garnered a Golden Globe nomination in the Best TV Movie or Mini-Series category.
Cholodenko (B.A., Interdisciplinary Studies, ’87) earned a 2011 Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay for The Kids Are All Right, which starred fellow SF State grad Annette Bening (B.A., Drama, ’80). Cholodenko was inducted into the SF State Alumni Hall of Fame in 2013.
