An exhibition at the San Francisco International Airport features selected artifacts from SF State’s Sutro Egyptian Collection.
Egyptian Revival: An Everlasting Allure features 100 years of Egyptian-inspired objects from 19th-century mantel clocks to ornate Victorian table stands and Art Deco beaded purses. Jewelry, sculpture, and silver are some of the many other items on display inspired by ancient Egypt. One display case is dedicated to items from the Sutro Egyptian Collection. Egyptian Revival is on display through July 5 at the SFO Museum, located in the international terminal. Admission is free.
The Sutro Egyptian Collection consists of more than 700 ancient Egyptian artifacts including a unique triple-nesting sarcophagus set and a well-preserved mummy. Graduate students in the Museum Studies Program’s exhibits class presents a public exhibition of the collection, attracting people from throughout the Bay Area, including more than 1,000 children. The Global Museum, a new exhibition space in the Fine Arts Building, is scheduled to open in late 2015.
