SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE -- He did some in the Army in the late ’60s, calling baseball, football and basketball games in Korea over the Armed Forces Radio Network. But after graduating from SF State University and joining KNBR in 1973 as a board operator, he contented himself with being behind the scenes. “I’m four feet in back of Jon and Dave,” he notes, adding that he’s also worked with such greats as Lindsey Nelson, Hank Greenwald and Lon Simmons. ... Stuart Hyde, who founded the radio-TV-film department at SF State University (now BECA — broadcast electronics communications arts), died last month at age 92. Despite all the changes in broadcasting, Hyde’s teaching will live on by way of his textbook, “Radio and Television Announcing,” and in his compassion for his students and others. As his family’s obituary began, “He touched countless lives and wanted everyone to succeed in whatever endeavor made their lives meaningful.”
