THE JIM ENGSTER SHOW -- Joseph McBride is an American film historian, biographer, screenwriter and professor in the Cinema Department at San Francisco State University. He’s the author of 17 books, including two about Orson Welles. On this podcast, he discusses Welles. “What we’ve tended to write about — me included — is his film work, which is wonderful and extremely influential. But to get the complete picture of the man, you have to look at all these activities,” McBride says. “He was often was doing five things at once. They influenced each other. Just to give one example, the radio shows, the innovative use of sound montage and music and dialogue and narration, you can see reflected in ‘Citizen Kane’ quite strongly.”
