Incoming Cinema Freshman Jimmy Ward a Community Hero for Storm Sandy Video

Thursday, June 25, 2015
SAND PAPER (SURF CITY, NEW JERSEY) -- Although Southern Regional graduating senior Jimmy Ward isn’t heading to West Point or taking one of the track scholarships he was offered, he deserves recognition. While he is clearly a notable member of the senior class, he has made lasting impacts on the community in other ways. Ward was a sophomore in 2012 when Superstorm Sandy hit. It was an event that literally affected the entire region. Ward made a video encompassing his three passions: running, filmmaking and the community. It showed him running from Southern Regional to and along a storm-ravaged Long Beach Island to spread the message that the area would rebound from the devastation. Possibly his most impressive effort, however, was a GiveForward.com fundraiser this year for his former teacher with Stage IV gastric cancer. He used the massive network he’d built through his videos and has raised more than $10,000. Ward will attend SF State, ranked for its School of Cinema.
