In the 'Now,' Alum Megan Trout Passionate About Acting

SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE -- By the beginning of 2008, Trout was enrolled at SF State, graduating in 2010. “It was great, magical — like Hogwarts. It changed my life. It was all about carving out a space for yourself. You had to be scrappy, but if you wanted to make something, you could find the resources and do it. It was a super-ambitious class of students. A half-dozen theatre companies came out of the kids who were there then.” One of those companies was 11th Hour Ensemble, dedicated to devising its own new work, which Trout co-founded. Mark Jackson was teaching at State, and she began working with him, first as a stagehand, then as one of the Juliets in a piece he created about Shakespeare’s character. Since graduating, she’s compiled an impressive roster of demanding work, not only at Shotgun and the Aurora, but playing the female leads in Sam Shepard’s “A Lie of the Mind” and “Buried Child” — in repertory — at Boxcar Theatre and as Maggie in “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.”
