EU DESIGN RADIO -- Joshua Singer, assistant professor of Design and Industry, is looking at data differently. His “Different Data” project, with several collaborators, explores the city of Detroit by examining and experimenting with visual language, methodology and various approaches to generating and collecting data.

While at the Cumulus Milan conference in June, Singer and colleague Rachele Riley discussed “Different Data” in an interview with EU Design Radio.

“As designers and design researchers, we come in, and in these irreverent ways, bring in data around issues that concern us,” Singer says, “and then display them in a very, sort of improvisatory manner, in a way that tries to challenge some of the existing views, and in a way that creates a different view of reality.”
