COAST WEEKEND (ASTORIA, OREGON) -- Coming from a musical family, Shelley Loring was exposed to a variety of music from an early age. She performed in jazz ensembles and studied briefly with jazz flutist Hubert Laws. After completing her music degrees at San Francisco State University and Portland State University, she performed in many orchestras and chamber ensembles in the San Francisco Bay and Portland areas. She toured with the Ralph Wells Trio for Community Concerts Organization and served as substitute extra flute in the Oregon Symphony. On the Oregon coast, Loring has performed with North Oregon Coast Symphony, Astoria Chamber Players, North Coast Symphonic Band, Equinox Jazz Trio and other performing groups. She teaches flute lessons and Kinder music classes through the Astoria Conservatory of Music.
