Treganza Anthropology Museum Director Questioned Authenticity of Collector's Art

ARTNET -- This isn’t the first time Greene’s collection has been called into question. In 2004, San Francisco’s de Young museum pulled out of an acquisition deal when Yoshiko Yamamoto, director of San Francisco State University’s Treganza Anthropology Museum, could only authenticate three of 80 pieces from Greene’s collection. Another collector, Thomas Murray, was also allegedly involved. The only documentation for most the works were from the two’s personal field notes and articles. “I am the provenance,” the two men were quoted as saying in their defense, according to San Francisco magazine.
