IN MENLO -- “Impressions,” a selection of Jared Sines’ oil paintings, is featured in September at the Portola Art Gallery in Menlo Park. A reception for the artist will be held on Saturday, September 12, from 1 to 4pm. This show features some of the artist’s favorite subjects, from the fountains and flowers of Allied Arts Guild to the venerable waterways of Venice, Italy. The artist explains: “I like to paint ‘optimistic’ themes, offering a dose of serenity to the inhabitants of our often frantic, pessimistic world.” Sines’ work has been popular among collectors of fine art since he began showing his trompe l’oeil still life paintings at Shreve and Company in San Francisco, while he was a student at San Francisco State College in the early 1960s. Since then, fine art galleries and retail establishments have exhibited his paintings on a continuous basis.
