Alum Suzun Lucia Lamaina Publishes Her Black Panther Party Photography

DAILY NEBRASKAN -- “We want freedom. We want power to determine the destiny of our black community,” reads the first point in the Black Panther Party’s October 1966 “Ten Point Platform and Program,” and so begins photographer Suzun Lucia Lamaina’s new book “Revolutionary Grain: Celebrating the Spirit of the Black Panthers in Portraits and Stories.” Her book shares contemporary portraits and stories of Black Panthers, captured over the last four years and now published in conjunction with the party’s 50th anniversary. “I transferred to the San Francisco Art Institute, and I went to graduate school at San Francisco State University,” she says. “I have two degrees in photography: a Bachelor of Fine Art from SFAI and a Master of Art from SF State in photography and interdisciplinary arts.”
