CHICO ENTERPRISE-RECORD -- Along with summer came a new air conditioning system and programming: weekend cult movie screenings, like “Boogie Nights” and “A Clockwork Orange,” with live musical entertainment and a catered bar before the show. The theatre’s concessions area, which is next on the renovation check list, now features healthier, more environmentally sustainable soda, popcorn and food that are organic and non-GMO, said Montalbano, a vegan. The filmmaker was “kind of dropped right into” owning and running the theatre once previous owner Tim Giusta stepped down in 2014, he said. His father, co-owner of Duffy’s Tavern, founded the independent, alternative theatre with Giusta in 1980. Montalbano came to Chico from San Francisco, where he attended San Francisco State University. His 2006 film “Revolution Summer” was an official selection for the San Francisco and Montreal international film festivals.
