PR NEWSWIRE -- Big wins for talented alumni and faculty from the California State University system at the 65th Primetime and Creative Arts Emmy Awards. Winners Jeffrey Tambor and Lisa Cholodenko found their passion at San Francisco State University. Following his 2015 Golden Globe win, Tambor took home a Lead Actor in a Comedy Series Emmy for playing Maura Pfefferman on Amazon’s Transparent.

Tambor dedicated his award to the transgender community, thanking them for “your patience, your courage ... and for allowing us to be part of the change.” Tambor learned his craft at SFSU saying he had great teachers — not only in the theatre department — my physics teacher was brilliant, my Shakespeare teacher was brilliant. It was just a magical time for me.”

Cholodenko won Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series, Movie or a Dramatic Special" for the HBO miniseries “Olive Kitteridge” following her Director’s Guild Award in February.
