Longtime staff member Jim Lilliston died peacefully in his sleep August 6, four days after his 61st birthday.

A course scheduler in the College of Liberal & Creative Arts, Lilliston was a 28-year SF State employee and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was an invaluable member of the dean’s staff, working with diligence and kindness every day. Lilliston was born in Virginia.

Lilliston loved the waterways. He spent 10 years crafting a sailboat by hand. The Alameda resident completed building his Meadow Bird 16 Little Fiddle earlier this year. He took it out on the Alameda marina several times.

The College of Liberal & Creative Arts will hold a memorial celebration for Lilliston at 5pm October 16 in Knuth Hall. A reception will follow in Creative Arts 153.

The College is also preparing an endowed staff award in Lilliston’s memory, which will provide $1,000 a year to a staff member for innovative work.
