Longmore Institute Co-sponsors Documentary Screening

CONTRA COSTA TIMES -- Los Medanos College will host a screening of the award-winning documentary “Fixed: The Science/Fiction of Human Enhancement” on October 15. The screening comes both in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Disability Awareness Month, and as a prelude to the Superfest International Disability Film Festival, which takes place November 14 at the Magnes Collection of Jewish Art and Life in Berkeley and November 15 at the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco. “Fixed,” by Regan Pretlow Brashear, is about the human body its increasing “upgradeability.” The film explores the social impact of human-related biotechnology and the new definitions of “disability” and “normalcy.” “Fixed” is being shown in collaboration with San Francisco State’ Paul K. Longmore Institute on Disability and LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired as well as Los Medanos College.
