Professor Kaplan Discusses Escalating Violence in Israel

KQED-FM FORUM -- As Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned vigilantism, some experts posit that the violence may signal the beginning of a third Palestinian Intifada, or uprising. Eran Kaplan, the Goldman Chair in Israel Studies at San Francisco State University, joins a “Forum” panel to discuss the causes of the current unrest and what Israeli, Palestinian and international leaders might do to quell it. “If we look at the most recent political campaign in Israel, very few politicians talked about the Oslo process or the two-state solution,” Kaplan said. “In fact, the Israel-Palestinian conflict figures very little in the campaign, so I think it’s an indication that fewer and fewer Israelis are thinking about it or considering it as a viable path right now.”
