SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE -- “We’re focusing on the music,” she says, “and it seems to be working. The numbers are up. We’ve gone from about 27th place to about 14th.” She admits that, down the line, she’d like to do more on the air. “I love talking to listeners; I love entertaining. I love being that snide-remark girl. But I understand that this works. I’m good with this now.” McArdle met Bleu when she was a student at San Francisco State University in 1993 and got an internship with KIOI. She was unpaid and she was starstruck. “I’d go home and say, ‘I got to give Don Bleu his prize sheet, and I put it on his copy stand!’” After a year of grunt work, she was hired as a nighttime producer for Lisa St. Regis. From there, she moved behind the mike at smaller stations like KKIQ in Pleasanton, “Sunny 102” (KJSN) in Modesto and KKDV in Walnut Creek, near her home.
