DESERT TIMES (TUCSON, ARIZONA) -- I’m not only a news writer. I wrote my first poem when I was 14, and continued throughout my life, even winning a few awards. A late-bloomer, I obtained my high school GED when I was sober at 51 and began a college career that earned me several degrees, including a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Creative Arts at San Francisco State University. I came out of that doing performance poetry.
