Future leaders, listen up: The New Leader Scholarship is accepting applications through Thursday, March 10. Annual awards of up to $8,000 are available to undergraduates at SF State and four other public universities in the Bay Area.
The New Leader Scholarship, an initiative of the Marin Community Foundation, provides scholarship support to students who come from financially and educationally disadvantaged backgrounds and underrepresented communities who demonstrate leadership capabilities. Students should be planning to pursue advanced education in the social sciences, human services, health-related fields or public service and be able to demonstrate a commitment to serving others.
Annual scholarships (for tuition and living expenses) are awarded to students for their junior or senior year. The scholarships can be renewed into graduate school at eligible universities.
The scholarship targets students in a variety of majors who come from financially and educationally disadvantaged backgrounds and underrepresented communities who demonstrate leadership capabilities. The minimum grade-point average is 3.5, but consideration is given to students with 3.2 – 3.49 GPA with special circumstances. The scholarship is open to students who applied for financial aid through AB 540 (California Dream Act).
