WALLETHUB -- “The awards and lack of diversity in nominations are not the issue,” Millsapps says. “The issue is (still) that Hollywood is a profit-driven industry that sticks to proven, bankable formulas, does not employ a diverse workforce and rarely steps outside these self-imposed boundaries in its investments. If movie studios don’t fund and generate material featuring women and persons of color in leading roles, then of course there won’t be any female or minority actors to nominate.” Professor Jan Millsapps’ current film project is a documentary about women and space: “Madame Mars: Women and the Quest for Worlds Beyond” being produced by the DocFilm Institute at SF State.
