MARIN INDEPENDENT JOURNAL -- At only 21 years old, Yoel Iskindir, of Greenbrae, is a filmmaker. And later this month, his work will be screened at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in France.

The San Francisco State University junior picked up his first video camera in middle school. Since then, he’s hardly been able to put the video equipment down. Coming from a family of modest means, that meant borrowing friend’s cameras until he was able to obtain his own in 2013 with help from a grant.

“I want to create change on a global scale,” Iskindir says. “Film is the medium that has a huge impact the way politics do or health systems do. I’m both an artist as well as someone who wants to create greater change and change the face of Hollywood because of how damaging its been.”
