FAIRFIELD DAILY REPUBLIC -- Shakespeare will transcend time in Suisun City. “As You Like It,” opening this weekend, will be set in the Summer of Love. Spindt, who is directing the production, fell in love with the play when she saw a version with Vanessa Redgrave on the BBC. “She was breathtaking,” Spindt said of Redgrave. “I was very fond of her in my formative years.” Her college years, at San Francisco State, coincided with the hippie movement of the late-1960s and early-1970s. Spindt viewed it as two camps: high society and the real hippies. She put herself in the former, noting a love for fashion and things Twiggy. The latter were “really living the life rather than the fashion of their life,” Spindt said. Pairing Shakespeare and the Summer of Love was a natural. “I wanted to get back to the 1960s,” she said. “I love the music.”
