THE MERCURY NEWS (SAN JOSE) -- He officially started creating the fantasy, science fiction novel “Spectrum of a Daydream” at age 12, after several failed attempts. “I began with other projects with a vaguely similar concept, but I only got a few pages in,” he said. “It was only a matter of solidifying a concept I absolutely liked, which was a group of kids growing up together, fighting some evil force. Simple stuff, but it grew and shifted and warped many times throughout the process. I eventually strove to have a strong surreal tone and focus on imagery and dreams.” A recent graduate of Heritage High School in Brentwood, Garro is enrolled at San Francisco State University with plans to begin his major in Cinema this fall. “I’d like to be somewhere in the film industry, whether it be directing, editing or producing,” said Garro. “But I feel like screenwriting would fit the most, because I obviously have a background in writing.”
