Alum Traci Chee's Debut Novel Receives Acclaim

CALAVERAS ENTERPRISE -- Bret Harte High School graduate Traci Chee will launch her debut young adult fantasy novel “The Reader” with a talk and book signing from 7 until 9pm Saturday at Angels Camp Mercantile. The first release in “The Sea of Ink and Gold” trilogy, Chee’s first novel is a swashbuckling adventure through a world without reading. It has already gained praise with starred reviews in Publisher’s Weekly, Booklist, Kirkus Reviews and School Library Journal. The publisher, Putnam/Penguin, has sold the rights to the book in seven other countries as well. Chee studied literature and creative writing at University of California, Santa Cruz, and earned a Master’s degree from San Francisco State University. She then taught school while writing short stories on the side.
