Poetry Clips of the Week: Señal Series Poets

These video clips are the part of a series highlighting recent readings held by SF State’s Poetry Center and American Poetry Archives. Visit this website regularly for fresh poetic content. Advisory: contains strong language.

On October 9, authors of recent poetry published by Ugly Duckling Presse’s Señal Series gave readings at Artists’ Television Access in San Francisco. The reading featured Stalina Emmanuelle Villareal (U.S.), Luis Felipe Fabre (Mexico City), Florencia Castellano and Katchadjian (both of Buenos Aires, Argentina), together with their translators, reading and responding to questions from the audience. The Poetry Center, Small Press Traffic and Ugly Duckling Presse presented the event.

Pablo Katchadjian reads from his “el cam del alch,” in the original Spanish, with Rebekah Smith following with her own and Victoria Cóccaro's translation, “the rou of alch” (Señal, 2016).

 

Luis Felipe Fabre reads, in the original Spanish, from his “Sor Juana y otros monstruos” (excerpted from his Poemas de terror y de misterio), followed by John Pluecker reading his translation, Sor Juana and Other Monsters (Señal, 2015).

 

Florencia Castellano reads from her Propiedades vigiladas, in the original Spanish, followed by Alexis Almeida reading from her translation, Monitored Properties (Señal, 2016).

 

Stalina Emmanuelle Villarreal introduces then reads from the original Spanish verses, followed by her translation, from the “Enigmas” of Sor Juana Inéz de la Cruz (Señal, 2015).
